Best Guacamole with Homemade Chips

A bowl of bright guacamole, with homemade chips with a side of fresh lime, garlic and red onion.

This guacamole is so bright and bursting with flavor. Enjoy with easy, baked homemade chips, tacos or bowls!

Why you’ll love the best Guacamole and Homemade Chips:

Easy to make- This guacamole comes together in 15 minutes while you bake the chips. The chips are so simple and only require a few minutes of prep and 3 ingredients!

Healthy- Guacamole is a great dip or condiment everyone including vegans, gluten free dieters, ketp, etc. The chips are a healthy homemade alternative to store-bought chips typically fried in seed oils.

Perfect for hosting- Guac is such a crowd pleaser and it’s easy to make a large batch for hosting! I prefer making it ahead of time, or even the night before, because the flavors meld even more and with all the lime juice, it won’t oxidize.

Ingredients for the best Guacamole and Homemade Chips:

Avocados- I recommend buying avocados a few days before you need them since it can be hard to find ripe avocados at the store. Avocados are packed with nutrients and antioxidants and are great for gut health.

Red onion- Red onions pack more punch when raw compared to white and yellow onions. I prefer my guacamole be full of flavor, plus the purple color is pretty. But feel free to use yellow or white onion for a slightly more mild taste or if that’s all you have on hand.

Garlic- Raw garlic adds a pungent and sharp taste to this guacamole which is a nice balance with the acidity from the lime and salty chips. Garlic has been proven to have many health benefits and potent medical properties.

Limes- Fresh lime juice adds the perfect amount of acidity and brightness to this creamy avocado dressing. It also keeps the avocado from oxidizing, making it possible to store in the refrigerator for a couple days without browning.

Jalapeño- Jalapeños add spice and texture to the guac. You can omit the seeds for less heat.

Corn tortillas- These can be switched for flour tortillas, if preferred but stick with corn to keep it gluten free. I have been loving these thin corn tortillas (no affiliation) which are sold at most grocery store.

Avocado or Olive Oil- Oil helps the chips to crisp up. You can use a spray or a pastry brush for easy application.

Ingredients

  • 12 tortillas
  • 1 Tbsp oil (avocado or olive)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 avocado, diced
  • 1/3 cup lime juice about 3 or 4 limes
  • 1 tsp salt and pepper
  • 1/2 small red onion (about 1/2 cup), minced
  • 1 small jalapeño, minced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

Instructions

Homemade Chips

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  • Lightly coat the tortillas with oil and sprinkle with salt. Bake for about 8-10 minutes or until golden and crispy.

Guacamole

  • Scoop diced avocado into a medium sized bowl. Add fresh lime juice, salt and pepper then mix until incorporated. Add minced onions, jalapeño and garlic and mix. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.

Notes

NOTE: Guacamole is great with a bit of texture so don’t over mix while incorporating all the ingredients.
STORAGE: Can be stored for up to 3 days in the refrigerator without oxidizing much. Just mix lightly as lime juice may separate slightly.
